WHY DOES BUFFALO HAIR LOOK "SHAGGY"?
Big Buffalo says:
You wouldn't want to wear a heavy wool coat all summer would you?
When spring gets here, we shed all the wool fur that covers most of our
body. But we keep the long hair on our head, chin, legs, neck, mane, and
the cape that covers our shoulders and hump
We keep a little bit of light hair over our body, but the heavy
stuff we rub off on trees or weeds. You will see it lying all over our
pasture. Our skin tans to a deep dark brown, and you do not even miss seeing
all that heavy hair. Sometimes the fur gets stuck to some of the light
hair that we are keeping and doesn't fall off. It then hangs in long "pigtails"
making us look shaggy until it finally falls off.
When summer is over, we will grow new fur to keep us warm during
the winter cold. We have eight times as many hairs as a cow, so we can
stay warm even in the snow with our thick winter coats.
We know a lady who makes BEAUTIFUL clothes for people using the
wool that we no longer need. Her name is Ruth Huffman. You can see some
of the clothes she makes by going to her website at the bottom of this
page.
But don't click on the link to her website until you are through
playing at the fun farm.
You could have trouble finding your way back to ourbuffalo.com.
